Dallas eCommerce Website Designs

Hello!  My name is Mike McLeland. I’m the owner of and principle web designer at DFW Web Design, a dba of North Texas Web Design.  DFW Web Design specializes in eCommerce websites.

eCommerce website designs are very different from other website designs.   They have only one objective – to get someone to make an online purchase.  DFW Web Design takes into consideration a number of design principles when building an eCommerce website.

While eCommerce websites are different than non-eCommerce websites, they still require simple and intuitive navigation?  They also need to take into consideration things like good color combinations, page width while creating a high degree of Google TRUST.  Lastly, and most importantly, they need to also compel visitors to stay on the website and browse your products.

Listed below are some critical elements DFW Web Design generally considers when building any eCommerce website.

  • An eCommerce website should provide visitors with a pleasant experience during online shopping.
  • An eCommerce website should be easy to use and provide easy to understand product information.
  • An eCommerce website should provide sufficient information about who owns the website and why they can be trusted.
  • An eCommerce website should provide shoppers a clear sense of trust and security when processing online credit card or PayPal payments

These principles are not new – but they’re more important than ever.  A good eCommerce website will lead the shopper to the correct page in one or two clicks at the most.

An effective eCommerce website is also all about the layout. One important aspect is where the shopper’s eyes go to first.  Most web research indicates the upper left portion of the web page is the most important, followed by the top/middle portion of the page.  By understanding how people look at a web page, your website effectively draws the shopper to the most important part of the web page.  An experienced web designer, like DFW Web Design, knows how to create an effective eCommerce design following these simple principles.

Lastly, most eCommerce websites have some sort of “store”.  At DFW Web Design, we typically use one of three “3rd party” shopping cart applications.  The shopping cart applications are licensed for use on a specific website for the life of the site.  There are no monthly or annual charges associated with using “third party” shopping carts, which over a long period of time can save the website owner lots of money.

If you’re looking to launch a new eCommerce website, or if your old eCommerce website is outdated and in need of a “new coat of paint”, please consider DFW Web Design.

Effective Web Design in Frisco, Texas

Hello, my name is Mike McLeland, and I’m the president and owner of Frisco Web DesignFrisco Web Design operates as a dba of North Texas Web Design.

In this BLOG posting, I want to discuss what goes into effective website design. Whether you’re looking for your first website, or you’re considering a website re-design, you need to consider several major decisions.  Listed below are a few of the steps critical to web design used by Frisco Web Design.

What’s the Main Purpose of any Website

In order to build an effective website, you must first understand the business or organization’s needs.  Listed below are just a few of the more important questions you should consider:

  • Are you trying to build a brand?
  • Are you trying to sell a product over the web?
  • Is your main goal simply advertising?
  • Are you attempting to earn affiliate commissions for sales or leads?
  • Is your main objective to provide customer service or support?

Once your website has been designed, you want it to be found on the Internet.  In order to do this, you can’t just sit back and wait for the phone to ring or the Contact Us forms to come rolling in.  I wish it worked this way, but it simply does not.  If you remember the movie Field of Dreams, the basic theme was “build it and they will come”.  This theme made for an interesting movie, but this theme does NOT work when building a website.  Frisco Web Design encourages website owners to consider some form of Advanced Search Engine Optimization, a professional approach to significantly increasing the relevance of your website on the Internet.

All websites designed by Frisco Web Design are designed to be Search Engine friendly.  There are several key rules to building an effective website that search engines love to visit and index.  Every page on your website should be optimized for the web, not just the Home page.  Listed below are the key guidelines followed by Frisco Web Design.

  • Website title for each page
  • Website description limited to no more than 250 words
  • Effective use of H1 – H6 tags
  • Appropriate use of ALT and Title tags for all images
  • Avoidance of FLASH designs, which no search engine can read
  • A quick and obvious Call to Action on the Home page
  • Effective use of keywords and keyword phrases that are aligned with the text in the body of each page.

If you’re looking to build a new website, or your existing website is in dire need of a “new coat of paint”, we invite you to consider Frisco Texas Web Design.

Top Three Website Design Issues in Plano, Texas

Hello!  My name is Mike McLeland and I’m the owner of Plano Web Design.  Plano Web Design operates as a dba of North Texas Web Design, a successful web design firm located in Plano, Texas.

In this BLOG posting, I discuss the top three items every website owner in Plano needs to be aware of:

  • Website owners must take responsibility of your website by providing fresh content on a regular basis.
  • Website owners must employ some form of sustained advanced Search Engine Optimization (SEO) program.
  • Since the first two items are typically not something most website owners do easily, website owners should establish a relationship with a trusted web design firm, such as Plano Web Design and North Texas Web Design, who can assist them in meeting their website expectations.

Plano Web Design understands that you cannot simply launch a website and expect to ever be found on the Internet.  This may have worked satisfactorily many years ago (???), but it certainly doesn’t work this way anymore.

Websites compete with hundreds of other web based businesses.  Those websites that are successful do so by adding fresh content to their website as well as by investing in some form of sustained Local SEO, Advanced SEO, Google AdWords or some combination of these.

Savvy website owners understand the importance of the Social Media, e.g., Facebook, Twitter, BLOGs, etc.  The value of the Social Media to website relevance has never been greater.  Just think about the last time you needed to find a product or service.  Did you do so via a search of the web or the Yellow Pages?  Data confirms that almost nobody uses Yellow Pages anymore.  If you don’t have an effective web presence on the Internet, you’re not going to be found by people searching for whatever product or service you sell

Plano Web Design takes a great deal of pride in striving to stay current with the latest W3C standards.  Every new website we create is fully optimized for the web.  But as noted above, this is not enough anymore.  Successful websites employ one or more of the following:

  • Routinely update the text on their websites to keep their website current.
  • On a regular basis, post to their own hosted WordPress BLOG as well as Facebook and/or Twitter (a website owner who does not do this is at a HUGE disadvantage to all those sites who do employ this strategy).
  • In addition to Press Releases, successful websites also focus on Article Marketing and Forum Marketing at least monthly.
  • Lastly, working with a reputable SEO firm, employ a strategy where they focus on different keywords, either across large geographic area, or in the case of a local business, focus on keywords specific to radius of 5-25 miles from a business.

There are many, many more tactics used for successful SEO … the ones above represent just a few of the more important tactics from our perspective.

Regarding Search Engine Optimization, there are unfortunately lots and lots of fraudulent and deceptive SEO companies.  These same firms charge unreasonable amounts, and often are abandoned by clients for their failure to deliver what they promise.

Plano Web Design uses state of the art SEO practices at very reasonable prices … typically far below those firms that promise things they can’t ever deliver.

If your website is not producing the results you want, please consider calling Plano Web Design.  We promise to be fair, present you with straightforward answers to your questions, and promise to work closely with you to elevate your website on

Website Do-Over’s in Dallas!

Does your website need a do-over?

Hi!  My name is Mike McLeland and I own North Texas Web DesignDallas Web Design operates as a dba of North Texas Web Design.  Many clients who contact Dallas Web Design for a re-do of their website do so because of various reasons. The top three reasons are:

  1. Their current website is NOT getting the traffic they want
  2. Their current website looks OLD compared to many other websites
  3. Their website simply does NOT project the image they want for their business

Listed below are the most common issues I normally see when discussing a website do-over with a new client:

  1. The website is several years old (websites need to be updated periodically in order to stay current)
  2. The website is very narrow in width (always a good indicator of age)
  3. The website is not coded using current W3C standards
  4. The website was coded using Microsoft Front Page – OUCH!
  5. The website was built using one the many “templates” advertised on television, which almost always are missing key meta instructions important for Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
  6. The website is missing necessary and very important elements which make a website conform to the latest W3C standards … to include elements very important for Search Engine Optimization
  7. The website contains annoying visual elements, to include too much Flash, goofy image animations, automatic audio that cannot be turned off, inappropriate font sizes and/or colors that don’t work with the website … just to list a few
  8. Website navigation is confusing and not at all intuitive for the average user
  9. The website has poorly written content and does not conform to standards established by the W3C (and more importantly, considered key by Google)
  10. Any combination of the above

Dallas Web Design will gladly discuss options to upgrade code to be more current and compliant with W3C standards.  Having said this, more often than not, we find it easier and far less expensive for our client to scratch the old code and just start over.

Whether looking to upgrade the code on your existing website or simply to start over, there are several key important things to consider when evaluating website design.

Understanding the main purpose of a website

In order to build an effective website, you must first understand the business or organization’s needs.  Listed below are just a few of the more important questions you should consider:

  1. Are you trying to build a brand?
  2. Are you trying to sell a product over the web?
  3. Is your main goal simply advertising?
  4. Are you attempting to earn affiliate commissions for sales or leads
  5. Is your main objective to provide customer service or support

Create an Attractive Website

Why should a website look attractive?  Why should it look professional?  Your website is a reflection of you and your business.  You might compare it to a sign over your store in a mall.  If the lettering is crude or homemade looking, this is projected to your visitors.  Dallas Web Design works hard to achieve a clean, attractive and professional web design for all our clients.

Create a Search Engine Friendly Website

There are several key rules to building an effective website that search engines love to visit and index.  Every page on your website should be optimized for the web, not just the Home page.  Listed below are the key guidelines followed by North Texas Web Design.

  1. Unique title for each page
  2. Meta tag description limited to no more than 250 words
  3. Effective use of H1 – H6 tags
  4. A quick and effective Call to Action on the Home page
  5. Effective use of keywords and keyword phrases that are aligned with the text in the body of each page.

If you are looking to build a new website, or your existing website is in dire need of a “new coat of paint”, we invite you to consider Dallas Web Design.

Search Engine Marketing by Dallas Web Design

I’ll bet that just about everybody has seen the movie Field of Dreams, starring Kevin Costner.  In this movie, Ray, an Iowa farmer, hears a voice saying “build it and they will come”.  While this made for a very entertaining movie, nothing could be farther from the truth from a web design perspective.  In the five plus years that I’ve been involved in web design, the rules pertaining to increasing Page Rank and gaining visibility for your website on the first couple of pages with Google (or any other search engine) have changed at least five time.  Sadly, too many of my customers believe all they must do is launch a new website, then watch as it attracts visitors to their new website.  Nothing could be farther from the truth.

At Dallas Web Design, a dba of North Texas Web Design, we believe most website owners should consider advanced Search Engine Marketing (SEM) once their new website is launched.  However, and unlike many other web design companies, Dallas Web Design doesn’t believe SEM should costs thousands of dollars monthly.  Depending on how much time you as the website owner are willing to put into SEM, your costs can be as little as a few hundred dollars a month, with strong and proven deliverables provided to you every month, demonstrating how SEM is working to promote your website.

Advanced Search Engine Marketing (SEM) – Listed below are some of the major elements of SEM as offered by Dallas Web Design:

  • Complete website analysis, to include:
    • Page analysis
    • Reputation analysis
    • Bookmark analysis
  • On-page optimization, to include:

    • Optimized robots.txt
    • Use of sitemap.xml and ror.xml

Is your current website out-of-date and/or needs a “new coat of paint”?  Is your current website not producing desired?  Did you know that 40% of all businesses don’t even have a website (according to Google)?  With Smart Phones, PDA’s, Notebooks and other similar smart portable devices more commonplace than ever, every business must have a website.  You don’t agree?  When was the last time you looked at the Yellow Pages?  Point made!

Of the 60% of those businesses who do have websites, 75% of them are obviously very old in design style as well as exceptionally poor in quality, with poor navigation, obvious template designs with missing robot instruction and/or way too much Flash (which neither Google or any other Search Engine can read).  In addition, many websites are missing even basic web page optimization.

All businesses today must have a well designed and well optimized presence on the web, a website that is designed to have a high trust factor with Google.

Listed below are The Top 10 Reasons you should consider Dallas Web Design, a dba of North Texas Web Design:

Top Three Items Every Website Requires

Website owners who want successful websites must:

  1. Take responsibility for their website on a regular basis.
  2. Employ some form of sustained SEO program, AdWords or both.
  3. Since the first two items are typically not something most website owners do easily, establish a relationship with a trusted web design firm that can assist them in meeting their expectations.

In the opinion of Dallas Web Design, a dba of North Texas Web Design, you cannot simply launch a website, especially one where the website has a lot of local competition, and expect to ever be found on the Internet.  If it ever worked this way, it certainly doesn’t anymore.

Websites compete with hundreds, possibly thousands, of other web based businesses.   Those websites that are most successful do so by investing in some form of sustained Local SEO, Advanced SEO, Google AdWords or some combination of these.

Successful website owners understand the phenomenon that’s occurred with the Social Media in recent years, e.g., Facebook, Twitter, BLOGs, etc.  Said differently, the value of the Social Media to website relevance has never been greater.

Too many website owners just expect their website to produce for them without appropriate attention to their site content and/or the html code used on their website as well as text changes that need to be made periodically due to evolution in web technology.  In the opinion of Dallas Web Design, code must be continually updated to stay current with the latest expectations from Google and other Search Engines.  The best example of this occurred when Google changed their algorithm in March, 2011.  Websites that were on previously on page one can’t be found today.  Other websites, once difficult to find, now are on page 1 or 2.  One of the keys to successful websites today involves the “TRUST” factor … something new Google has added to their algorithm.

Dallas Web Design also believes that all successful websites today have an “Internet presence” on more than just their website, e.g., many website owners’ posts on their Social Media pages weekly if not daily.  Doing so DRIVES business to their website.

Dallas Web Design takes a great deal of pride in striving to stay current with the latest W3C standards.  Every new website we create is fully optimized for the web.  But as noted above, this is not enough anymore.  Successful websites employ one or more of the following:

  • Routinely update the text on their websites to keep their website      current.
  • Routinely evaluate their website analytics to see which keyword      phrases are working well and which ones are not working at all, then make      appropriate changes.
  • Weekly, if not daily, post to their own BLOG as well as Facebook      and/or Twitter (a website owner who does not do this is at a HUGE      disadvantage to all those sites who do employ this strategy).
  • At least a couple of times each month, release “Press Releases”      (a cute word for Internet Advertising) with relevant text about their      business, specials they may have, products or services they offer, etc.
  • In addition to Press Releases, highly successful websites also      focus on Article Marketing and Forum Marketing at least monthly.
  • At least monthly (probably with the help of a SEO firm) posts      one-way links to appropriate websites and BLOGS.

Regarding Search Engine Optimization, there are unfortunately lots and lots of fraudulent and/or deceptive SEO companies.  These same firms charge unreasonable amounts, and often are abandoned by clients for their failure to deliver what they promise.  Dallas Web Design strives to offer industry leading SEO services as affordable pricing.

If your website is not producing the results you want, please consider calling Dallas Web Design.  We promise to be fair, present you with straightforward answers to your questions, and promise to work closely with you to elevate your website on the Internet.

Dallas Web Design

Are you tired and confused by all the high-priced website design firms advertising in Dallas. Dallas Web Design, a dba of North Texas Web Design, specializes in helping small business owners throughout Dallas meet their many website needs.

As you’ve no doubt discovered by now, most web design firms charge too much for their services. And worse yet, too many websites we see designed by our so called “competitors” simply lack in essential coding required to achieve good Search Engine visibility.  Whether this is an error of omission, or they simply don’t do it because it takes more time, we don’t know.  We at Dallas Web Design don’t believe in shortcuts, and we strive to ensure every website we build conforms to the very latest W3C design standards.

Understanding the main purpose of a website

In order to build an effective website, you must first understand the business or organization’s needs.  Listed below are just a few of the more important questions you should consider:

  • Are you trying to build a brand?
  • Do your customers ask you for your website, but you don’t have one?
  • Or worse yet, is your website not a good reflection of you or your business?
  • Are you trying to sell a product over the web and you need an eCommerce solution?
  • Or is your main goal simply advertising over the web?

Selecting a web designer

Once you understand the goals of your website, your next step is probably to find a professional web designer.  Listed below are some of the more common attributes Dallas Web Design can offer you.

  • Excellent/current knowledge of HTML skills and web design expertise
  • Good graphic design skills
  • Simple and intuitive web navigation
  • True “custom” website designs (we never use templates)
  • A passion for providing Great Customer Service
  • State-of-the-art Search Engine Optimization once your new website is launched
  • Reasonable and affordable pricing

What is important to most Users?

What do users find important on a website?  Dallas Web Design believes we have a good grasp of this question, which we summarize below:

  • Users want Quality and Creditability?  High quality content rather than a very busy page with too much text is very important to most users.
  • For the most part, users don’t read – they scan.  Don’t believe this – why are most web pages viewed in only a second or two, then users move on. Text is certainly important from an SEO perspective, but a bad web design usually contains excessive text – text that most users never read.
  • Web users insist on easy to grasp navigation.  Navigation that’s not crystal clear will result in a fast exit from your website.
  • Balance!  A good web page is a balance between text and graphics, symmetry and rhythm.
  • Dallas Web Design strives to achieve high user Creditability via easy to grasp navigation and an appropriate balance between text, graphics and colors.

Dallas Web Design works hard to achieve a clean, attractive and professional web design for all our clients.  If you are looking to build a new website, or your existing website is in dire need of a “new coat of paint”, we invite you to consider Dallas Web Design.

Website Do-Over’s!

Does your website need a do-over?

Many clients who contact North Texas Web Design for a re-do of their website do so because of several reasons. The top three reasons are:

  1. They’re current website is NOT getting the traffic they want
  2. They’re current website looks OLD compared to many other websites they normally look at
  3. They’re website simply does NOT project the image they want for their business

Listed below are the most common issues we normally see when discussing a website do-over with a new client :

  1. The website is several years old
  2. The website is very narrow in width – always a good indicator of age

While North Texas Web Design will gladly discuss options to upgrade code to be more current and compliant with W3C standards, more often than not, we find it easier and far less expensive for our client to scratch the old code and just start over.

Whether looking to upgrade the code on your existing website or simply to start over, there are several key important things to consider when evaluating website design.

North Texas Web Design works hard to achieve a clean, attractive and professional web design for all our clients.

eCommerce Website Design

eCommerce websites are typically very different from other website designs.   They have but one objective – to get someone to make an online purchase.  Allen Web Design takes into consideration a number of principles when starting and building an eCommerce website.

eCommerce websites are different than non-eCommerce website, yet they still require simple and intuitive navigation?  They need to take into considerations good color combinations, just like any other website?  They also need to attractive – like any other website?

Listed below are some critical elements Allen Web Design generally considers when building any eCommerce website.

An experienced web designer, like Allen Web Design, knows how to create an effective eCommerce design following these simple principles.

Lastly, most eCommerce websites have some sort of “store”.  At Allen Web Design, a dba of North Texas Web Design, we typically use one of three “third party” shopping cart applications.  The shopping cart applications are licensed for use on a specific website for the life of the site.  There are no monthly or annual charges associated with using “third party” shopping carts, which over a long period of time can save the website owner lots of money.

If you’re looking to launch a new eCommerce website, or if your old eCommerce website is outdated and in need of a “new coat of paint”, please consider Allen Web Design.
